We feel one of our biggest accomplishments over the past four years is the AHS graduation rate. In the fall of 2011, the State Department of Education announced the graduation rate for Ashville High's 2010 graduating class was 54%. This percentage was alarming and one that we knew had to improve and quickly. With a lot of hard work and dedication on the part of our counselor and faculty, we have been able to report an increase each and every year. The graduating class of 2011 showed marked improvement at 73%. In 2012, graduation rate was 77% and then one point more in 2013 when we showed a rate of 78%. The class of 2014 had 84% graduation rate and we finished 2015 with 89%. The way this rate is calculated by the state is to take the number of students who enter in to 9th grade and make them a cohort. These same students are followed for four years. The students who graduate on time in four years count in the percentage. Those who are retained, drop out or move to another school without sending us enrollment papers count against us. We are making huge gains in tracking the students who leave our school so our graduation rate will not be affected.
